The Department of Paediatrics
The Department of Paediatrics has two research programmes:
Neurofibromatosis
The NF expertise center serves as the national referral centre for neurofibromatosis type 1, and collaborates with GENTURIS-European Reference Network. The NF1 expertise center is embedded in the ENCORE group (Erasmus Neurocognitive research). Focus is longitudinal natural history studies of NF1 and its rare complications, translational research and the development of clinical drug trials.
Pediatric emergency medicine
The objective of this research programme is to determine the best management for acutely ill children at the pediatric emergency department. Areas of study are clinical decision making, identification of biomarkers, exploring variability of clinical management and shared decision making with parents. The clinical topics are emergency triage and children with fever varying from life-threatening infections to self-limiting diseases.
